Hepatic steatosis rather than underlying obesity increases risk of infection and hospitalization for COVID-19

In a large-scale UK Biobank study, hepatic steatosis, not obesity alone, predicted COVID-19 severity: obese individuals with elevated liver fat had ~5-fold higher hospitalization risk.
