The ALERT score has been developed as a simple screening tool using routine blood tests (ALT, triglycerides) and diabetes status to identify people with high liver fat content (≥8%). It outperformed existing clinical scores and VCTE-CAP, offering a practical, high-specificity tool to help clinicians find patients suitable for MASLD/MASH trials and those at increased risk of liver complications, especially in type 2 diabetes.
